Oversharing Online
Facebook "friends" is a very interesting concept. For one, how many are truly even friends. How many do you speak to regulary? And how many have you even spoken to in 15 years? Or at all is some cases? So the answer to the question of whether there is an "ideal" number of friends that can improve mental health is, no. It is just a number on a page. The connections you draw from those friends is what is important and what will improve mental health. Personally, I have around 400 followers on my social media accounts, but I value my closest friends, which I can count on a single hand much more than those 400.
Social media sites have a huge responsibilty in promoting mental health. Almost everyone in the world has some form of social media, whether it be Facebook, Youtube, or even something as simple as Skype. It is where we access most of our information. I know for me, I receive a lot of my news and awareness from sites like Twitter. I thinking promoting, and spreading awareness to the fundamnetal concept of mental health is extremly important. Awareness is key, and providing users with this knowledge can make a big difference. Sites can do so by sharing self-care tips or showing examples of a healthy lead lifestyle.
